James Fortune ~Vietnam

July 16, 1969 (Wed)

Dear Chris,

I know that it is time that I write but believe me you have been on my mind a lot the last few days. I have tried now about five times to write to you but I can't really think of a good way to tell you what I have to say. So I guess I will just say it. I can't  come home next month. I don't know why myself so don't ask me why. All I know is that the first sergeant called me up to his office Friday and said Fortune you can't go home next month. But you can go home before you go to Vietnam and I should be going there before long.

Now tell me. What would you like from Korea? Tell me and I promise to bring it home for you. Special delivery by Jim.

Please excuse me for not coming home. I miss you Chris and wish that we could be together. But I am in the army and they need me. Don't be mad I promise to be home soon. So don't quit writing. I will make it up to you when I get home. Now tell me. What would you like from Korea?  Tell me and I promise to bring it home for you. Special delivery by Jim. Oh how I miss you. I think of you every day and I always make sure to check every day for a letter from you. I guess that you have grown a part of me. I just hope that it will be the same once I come home. Your letters that you send me keep so happy. It would really be a drag without them.

So well (?) What have you been doing? I hope that you are having fun.. Yes there is something that I would like to ask you. Do you a tape player? The reason I ask is cause I am buying one from a friend over here and if you do we could send tapes back and forth. I think it would really be great to have each others voice once in a while. I don't know about you but I can't really say what I feel in a letter and to hear your voice well it would be something else like wow man. It would really be cool. Please answer and let me know if you one or not.

You ask me if I ever saw Bob's car. Yes I have. Matter of fact I have driven it once before.

Myself I haven't been too busy this week. Just the same old drag of working on jeeps and trucks every day. The weather over here is terrible now. It has rained all week and hasn't let up a bit. The bugs and mosquitoes are something else. Well Chris I will close for now. Let's hope that we see each other soon.

Love,
Jim
