In Vietnam soldiers were eligible for one R & R during a one year tour of duty in Vietnam. This was a five day leave. In Vietnam, Bangkok, Thailand was very popular with single men.

In just four or five days after R & R Jim would be sent inside the border of Cambodia for the 60 day incursion President Richard Nixon would tell a television audience, myself included of this on Thu 30 Apr 1970.
