Dear Chris,

Pvt Jim Fortune Korea army truckI am sorry that I haven't written in a while but as you know I have been on the move. I like it all right here in Korea. The wheather here is warm now. So the monsoon season will start soon. Then it will rain for about a month. I am stationed in a good place. I am about five miles south of Seoul. Seoul is a beautiful city. It is real modern in parts.

Not doing much today but sleeping and just taking it as easy as possible.

My job is to keep the trucks running. I specialize in diesel engines. Not much to do. Sometimes I work hard and then other times there isn't anything to do. Soon I am going to be promoted to SP4. That is the same as Corporal. Before I leave here I can make sergeant.

Last night I went to the NCO club and had a few drinks with the guys. I guess I coming home in August for a month. I will be glad to get home and see everybody. It has been a while since I have seen the family and friends. It has been really a long time since I have seen you, I guess about nine months. But it doesn't seem all that long since I came in the army, the time has just flown by. I hope I can see you in August when I come home. I don't really like being away from home, but I like the army life. I have really had a lot fun since I have been in and met a lot of great guys. I have also seen a lot of the world. I have thought of reenlisting when my time is up.

So what have you been doing with your life? Just think school will be over for the summer. Then you will senior. How about that? You asked me about Terrie. I don't know. Terrie and me don't write anymore. I feel bad about it, but I can't her. She is a young girl and has to get out and have fun just like I do. As you know I did once do care awful lot about her, but it is all in the past now. I feel that there is bright new future for me when I get back to the states.

What has Diane been doing? I haven't written her in so long. I bet she is really mad at me. I guess maybe I had better get a letter out to her soon. As soon she will disone me and kick me out of the family. Well Chris I am going to close for now. Take care of yourself and be good.

Your GI friend,
Jim
