Edward J. Thomas - World War II

So much is happening on the war front from Eddie's letter of Wed., Apr. 26, 1944 to his next letter of Tues., Jun 6, 1944 (D-DAY) that I have created a page for this.

Mon., May 15 Hitler's rampage has 380,000 Hungarian Jews deported to its dreadful concentration camps. Two-thirds of them will die!

Thur., May 18 Monte Cassino, Italy finally succombs to the Allies after a long battle of some four months.

Fri., May 19 Germany has executed 47 RAF officers, as will be shown in an upcoming film,
"The Great Escape"

Mon., Jun 5, 1944 was to be D-Day. General Eisenhower postpones D-Day until the early hours of Tues. Jun. 6, 1944.

Tues., Jun. 6, 1944 - At the stroke of midnight, Operation Overlord was well underway. Paratroopers are dropped into the farmlands of Normandy, France.

Here is the link to exerpts from a second cousin - Leonard Thomas of Ludington, Michigan. He was part of the D-Day invasion and a newspaper article about him at a ceremony this spring.)
