Edward J. Thomas - World War II
Dear Ed, Thursday, Jun 24, 1943
I sent a copy of my will to Stanley. Stanley says more people are killed in the war industry than in the Armed Forces. Stanley sees this at his shipyard work in California.
“Secret Weapon”, Stanley says is probably “Bazooka”, lots of talk in the paper. It’s really bad medicine to Nazi tanks. “Radar is another weapon hard on the enemy.
Stanley is amazed at the training with live bullets above you. Stanley talks about his Chevy and tires. He was allowed to get Grade III tires – Retreads.
Grade I – are new tires. Gas rationing is not so bad in California. Meat is scarce. Cheap cuts were 25¢/lb. Now it is 55¢/lb.
