Edward J. Thomas - World War II
From Stanley, Dear Ed, Sun. May 2, 1943
I can just imagine what you are having to absorb and endure in such a short time at Fort McClellan. I am welding in the hot sun, and it feels like hell. I might consider the army if I wasn't married.
Air raid sirens went off at 8:30 p.m., and felt like it was the real thing. I don't believe the Japs will try now. Food rationing has tightened up, but I'm eating better and more wisely. Gas rationing is not as bad as on the East Coast. We can have four gallons a week. It hurts those that gadabout but they usually buy from the black market.
